06.10.17  Angling Trust Launches Cormorant Watch Web Site and Calls on Minister to Act to Protect Fish

The Angling Trust has called on the government to do more to protect rivers and lakes from fish-eating birds.

In a letter to Environment Minister George Eustice, the Angling Trust is demanding a doubling of the number of cormorants licensed to be shot in England annually to 6,000. It also calls for the relaxing of the requirement for evidence that goosanders are damaging fisheries before a licence will be issued.

06.10.17  Angling Trust Calls for Voluntary Approach to Regulating Salmon and Sea Trout Angling The Angling Trust has today published its responses to concurrent consultations by the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales about the regulation of rod and net fisheries.  As the representative body for anglers in England and Wales, the Trust has called for a voluntary approach to management of the exploitation of salmon and sea trout by anglers fishing with rod and line and designation of salmon and sea trout as sport fish only, because of the vastly greater benefits to society arising from angling compared to catching these species in nets.

28.09.17  Petition to cease the commercial exploitation of endangered baby eels delivered to Downing Street A petition of nearly 2,000 signatures calling for an end to the commercial exploitation of endangered baby eels was handed in to the Prime Minister at Number 10 Downing Street by the Golden Valley Fish and Wildlife Association with support from the Angling Trust and other fishery organisations.
