15.03.17  Operation CLAMPDOWN 5 now running across England to target illegal close season fishing There are now 324 more reasons not to risk illegally fishing for coarse fish during the close season. That is the current number of Volunteer Bailiffs in England – and they will be keeping watch on their local rivers as Operation CLAMPDOWN 5 swings into action over the next three months.

03.03.17  New bass rules WILL be enforced despite protest by commercial fishermen Attempts by commercial fishing groups to find ways round the new rules agreed by EU ministers last December to protect bass stocks appear to be floundering. It follows formal confirmation by the government, in response to an enquiry by the Angling Trust, that targeted netting for bass is no longer permissible and that enforcement action will be taken against transgressors.

17.02.17  Multi-million pound project to restore freshwater fish habitats in Cornish rivers The Angling Trust has congratulated the Westcountry Rivers Trust after it launched a £2.2 million project to restore freshwater fish habitats in two iconic Cornish rivers – the Camel and the Fowey.

Spring Into Fishing events run by the Angling Trust and funded by the Environment Agency, are a great way to get everyone out doing something different and will help kids learn new skills outdoors – best of all it won’t cost a penny!

15.02.17  Chance for voluntary approach as mandatory catch and release for salmon in Wales is postponed The Angling Trust welcomes the news that the implementation of new bylaws being proposed in Wales for mandatory catch and release for all salmon has been postponed for the coming season to allow time for a full consultation.
