Species Hunt 2015 - Results Month 3

October has certainly been another busy month with 100's of new fish being sent in. This is some feat considering we are now into the 3rd month of the contest and lots of people are really narrowing down their target species! We have now had over a 1000 capture reports in the hunt which a real landmark and have had the first few competitors to break the 40 species barrier!  . Within the catches this month there have been a lot of flatfish and micro species caught. A pattern seems to be forming that people are diversifying from their more regular tactics to build up their numbers...

Amazingly Ollie and James are still matching each other at the top, with an awesome 41 species! It's very apparent that nearly all of the top 20 anglers have once again added at least 2/3 species to their tally this month, showing how committed they are to increasing their totals. Once more we have a relative late comer scaling the leader board in the form of Sven Peters, showing you can still be in with a shout if you join late!

Congratulations to Oly for holding fast at the top, can he be caught! It's once more apparent that most of the top 10 anglers have added 2/3 species to their tally this month, so congratulations on hunting down those rarer fish. The battle second place and third is chopping and changing all the time, with Five young anglers all in the teens!

SPECIMEN HUNT RESULTS

Species Hunt 2015
Darren Braby-550pxThe October Specimen Hunt winner as chosen by our panel is Darren Braby for his capture of this beautifully marked Small eyed ray from Alderney north coast.

The specimen was 59cms (from wing tip to wing tip) which is the joint largest entered into the contest.

This shows that Darren is very capable of catching specimen sized ray as well as the wealth of species he's sent in.

Many thanks to all of you for competing this month.

Please remember your rules and cards, spread the word about the Species Hunt with the new poster and keep your captures coming in!

Species Hunt 2015 - Results Month 4

November has once more seen hundreds of catch reports popping into our email inbox. This shows some real focused fishing considering the diminishing returns on new species.  With the colder weather still holding off we are still seeing a good mixed bag of species, however a few more sizable cod are starting to make an appearance. Looking further at the patterns of catches a lot of Hounds and flatfish have graced our shores in November and also a higher percentage of specimen fish...

SPECIMEN HUNT RESULTS

Sea Species Hunt -
Ciaran Farley with Huss-550pxThe October Specimen Hunt winner as chosen by our panel is Ciaran Farley for his capture of this beautifully marked Bull Huss from the River Dart. My apologies to Ciaran as we got his name mixed up with his dads (Russell) in a previous report.

The specimen was 114cms which is not only the largest in the competition so far, but a huge 10cm larger than anything else. Ciaran caught the Fish on Sandeel bait during stormy conditions in the Brixham Sea Anglers South Hams Competition. This was more than enough to see him take away the junior trophy.

Many thanks to all of you for competing this month, please remember your rules and cards, spread the word about the Species Hunt with the new poster and keep your captures coming in!

Species Hunt 2015 - Results Month 5

Species Hunters, a Happy New Year to everyone and I hope you all managed to get some time off over the Christmas break. Once again our December was much busier than last year's, probably helped by the mild conditions but thanks to all that keep sending in capture reports.

Looking over the entries there is still a real mixture of species marking around the UK. This shows that there are still plenty of opportunities out there to put a few more species on the tally.

The long awaited results...

Species Hunt Chris
Redhead Blond Ray.jpgThe December specimen Hunt winner as chosen by our panel is Chris Redhead for his capture of this enormous Blond Ray.

Upon finding his desired mark unfishable due to high winds he moved to Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight.

The specimen was 77cms from wing tip to wing tip and weighed 18lb 10oz which is the largest ray ever entered into the contest. The specimen fell to a very large sandeel fished on a pennel rig at 80 yards range.

Species Hunt 2015 - Results Month 6

A very wet January appears to have had a positive effect on catches around our coast. Flatfish have shown across many marks with several specimen fish reported and the all the rockling species have also had a strong presence this month.

Looking over the entries there is still a real mixture of species marking around the UK. This shows that there are still plenty of opportunities out there to put a few more species on the tally. The results are the following:

Alan Hughes continues to find new species at the top and pulls one clear of James, Ollie and Matt. Alan did this with a Cracking Bull Huss from the Welsh Coast. With the top 9 anglers within 3 species of one another the last 2 months of Species Hunt will be vital and winkling out the odd species here and there, will be crucial to make the top 3.

Congratulations to Oly still steadfast at the top with 35, it's a great haul and may not be matched. The competition continues for second spot though, with Ciaran adding two species to tie him up with Ethan. This now makes Four anglers within one species and a really close finish to the junior contest!

Spiro Fished Chesil beach at range on a single pulley rig to tempt the fish.

Species Hunt 2015 - Results Month 7

With some very mild conditions this February there have been a comparatively large number of entries across a good range of species. Reports are tending to be ever more of micro species as you guys target those last few fish to add to your tallies. With the competition ending on the 31st of March these are the standings with under a month to go.
