Child Protection in Angling

Participation in angling is a regular activity for many children and young people and its influence on their lives is significant. Such participation has a wide range of benefits for children and young people. Every child and young person has the right to have fun, feel safe and be free from harm and neglect whether participating at a local club or representing the country at international level.

Safeguarding children and young people is everyone's responsibility. Angling clubs, angling coaches and angling volunteers all have a role to play. For information on your responsibilities with regard to Child Protection please download the Child Protection guide:

This document details the roles and responsibilities of an angling organisation, helpful good practice and signposts you to further information, most of which can be found within this section.

For a greater understanding of Safeguarding & Protecting Children in sport, SportscoachUK run a workshop called “Safeguarding & Protecting Children” which is recognised by the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit. This course is recommended to anyone who works with children or young people in sport:

  • Safeguarding & Protecting Children (SportscoachUK)
  • As the development arm of the Angling Trust, the ADB produced Child Protection Policies & Procedures which the Angling Trust as a whole has adopted, meaning any individual or organisation who is affiliated to the Angling Trust falls within these.

The Child Protection policy and supportive templates can be downloaded here:

Please find below supportive documents regarding safeguarding and protecting young people in angling, produced by the Angling Trust:
