National Celebration of Young People and Fishing 2022 – Junior (11-15 years)

This championship is organised by the Canal & River Trust as part of its Let’s Fish Programme & Angling Trust. The event aims to show young anglers how prolific the nation’s canals can be, whilst giving them the chance to show off their skills alongside other like-minded young people, to participate in the hope of being crowned as a UK champion canal angler. Please note that in the Cadet and Junior section the maximum length of pole that can be used in the first 90 minutes of the competition is 3 metres and no fishing is allowed beyond three metres from the nearside bank in the first 90 minutes of the Cadet and Junior event.

The Championship will be split into 3 categories:
• the Cadet event is open to competitors aged 7-10 years old on the day of the competition
• the Junior event is open to competitors aged between 11-15 years old on the day of the competition
• the Youth event is open to competitors aged between 16-20 years old on the day of the competition

Entry fee is £5.00 per angler.

Main Car Park: TF9 2NB

Arrival: Please arrive at the car park from 9:45am onwards. You can make your way to the bank between 10:00am and 10:30am.

Fishing: 12:00pm to 4:00pm

Young anglers who attend on the day will receive the following incredible participation prizes:

  • A £10 Leigh Tackle & Bait Voucher
  • A sample of Fjuka bait
  • A bag of Sonubaits groundbait
  • A sample of Sonubaits pellets

They are also in with a chance of winning:

  • A gudgeon mug if they are able to land a gudgeon
  • A Lets Fish cap if they are able to land a roach
  • A medal or trophy
  • Team and individual tackle prizes

We encourage those taking part to form teams of three, ideally through their local Let’s Fish club or community group. There will be a special prize for the top-performing school and team representing a tackle shop in both the cadet and junior events. Please email [email protected] by close of day on Monday 12th September 2022 with your teams, otherwise, you will be allocated a team at random (where numbers permit).

To take part in the team event you must already be competing as an individual.

Once you have registered to take part , you will be entitled to one free two-hour canal coaching development session through the Let’s Fish programme. These sessions are designed to help you prepare for the big day. You should email [email protected] with a subject heading National Celebration of Young People and Fishing Development Programme to reserve your place. Please include your full name, age and where you live.

If you take part in this event, you will also automatically be invited to take part in the fishing events that will be associated with the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR 2022:

The draw for the Cadets and Youth will take place on the Canal & River Trust Angling Facebook Page on Wednesday 14th September at 6pm. The draw for the Juniors will take place on the Canal & River Trust Angling Facebook Page  on Thursday 15th September at 6pm.

Cancellation/Refunds: Please note: If you wish to cancel a ticket, please inform [email protected] by email, and include your name, the name of the qualifier you would like to cancel, your membership number & postcode. We require 3 days’ notice prior to the qualifier in order to process a refund. Any notification outside of this time scale will not be entitled to receive a refund. Please note: There is no secondary market for the sale or transfer of any tickets.
