I was born and raised in Ukraine during the challenging period of the Soviet Union’s collapse, when many families relied on water resources as their primary source of sustenance. My passion for fishing and witnessing the devastating effects of poaching and corruption showed me how irresponsibility can destroy natural resources. This experience shaped my lifelong goal – to protect nature and seek sustainable ways to preserve it.
I strongly believe that water resources, fish, and everything connected to aquatic ecosystems are a national treasure—on par with oil, gas, and other energy resources. However, unlike these, fish cannot be replaced; it is a unique and irreplaceable element of the ecosystem that demands heightened attention and state support.
After moving to the United Kingdom, I worked for a company that actively developed elements of artificial intelligence. The principles and mechanisms I learned there are tools I now aim to apply in the fight to preserve nature, developing approaches that enhance the efficiency of environmental protection. For me, working with young people is a central part of this mission: I see them as the bridge between myself, nature, and the future. By teaching people to care for water resources and the environment, I build a connection with future generations who will continue this vital work.
Being part of the Building Bridges Project allows me to align my values with my professional experience. For me, this project is not just a platform for cultural integration through angling but a bridge connecting humanity with nature. It is also a bridge that links us to the future through children, giving us the opportunity to pass on knowledge and values to the next generation.
And I am confident that I can BUILD THAT BRIDGE.
