We are pleased to offer the new Get Fishing Event Support Volunteer training.

Schedule for the latest Event Support Volunteer course:

Tuesday 11th February 2025, 6.30 pm – 9.30 pm

This is an online, tutor-led course lasting 3 hours. Most courses will be run in the early evening. They will be delivered by members of our coach education workforce and will cover the following topics:

  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Understanding Risk Assessments and Managing Health and Safety
  • Working as part of a team
  • Understanding the Get Fishing Campaign and Supporting Interventions
  • Practical Coaching Skills including activating, delivering and renewing sessions
  • How to instruct and explain
  • How to demonstrate
  • How to give praise
  • How to use open questions to support learning
  • How to keep young people safe
  • Identifying types of abuse and how to report concerns

The Event Support Volunteer Award course is designed to support those aged 16 and upwards who wish to offer voluntary help at Get Fishing Award events: it also provides an introduction to step into coaching.  (Please note that this course does not teach you how to fish, qualify you as a coach who can plan and lead angling activities, or provide Licensed Coach status or insurance.)  You must be at least 16 years old by the first day of your selected course.

Angling Trust staff will send various information by email, and your tutor will email you a link to join the Zoom session.  Please check any spam/junk folders in case your mailbox settings should divert these messages.

You will need to undertake the category of Enhanced DBS check which is a requirement for your role as an Event Support Volunteer.  Guidance for this will be sent to you following your booking confirmation, but this will be separate from the instructions and Zoom link supplied by your tutor.

Please note that DBS checking is NOT a requirement for undertaking this course, but relates to your deployment afterwards by a group, organisation or angling project.  This DBS check is NOT appropriate for paid activities.

The fee paid below will also be deducted from the standard amount due for a Level 2 Angling Event Lead Coach course, should you later wish to progress further and become an Angling Coach.

How to enter

You will need to download the ZOOM application (which is free to use) either on your computer, laptop or smartphone.
