Activity: The sessions offer an opportunity to learn to fish, with a focus on young people.

Achievement: An opportunity to achieve the Bronze Get Fishing Award.  During the 20-minute session, you will be introduced to fishing using simple equipment and techniques and maybe catch your first fish!

Cost: The activity is part of the The Royal Three Counties Show. Tickets for the show are available via www.royalthreecounties.co.uk and once inside the show a small donation to the charity is typically requested for the fishing sessions at the point of booking – thank you!

Other Opportunities: Besides the main show, similar “Get Hooked on Fishing” lessons for children aged 6+ are also hosted at The Cob House (a separate nearby venue) during summer, with sessions in July and August.

Venue: The Royal Three Counties Show is held at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern

Type of Fishing: Coarse

Perfect for: Families and kids of all ages and experience levels. People under the age of 18, or vulnerable people under 21 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

What happens on the day: The angling activities on offer are designed to encourage adults, children and young people to discover what angling is all about and take up angling. You’ll find out how to use fishing fishing rods, reels, line and tackle to catch fish and return them safely. Get Hooked on Fishing Volunteers will be on hand to help, give fishing tips and provide you with more info about your local club or fishery so you know how to go fishing again next time.

Tackle: Use of all tackle, equipment, bait, consumables and everything else to catch a fish will be provided on the day. No need to bring any fishing equipment.

Do I need to bring anything with me…? Outdoor events are weather dependent so please bring something to keep you dry and/or sunblock and a drink. For events including “game angling” we recommend that you wear a hat and glasses/sunglasses to protect your head and eyes while casting.

Disability information: Volunteers and coaches at Get Fishing events are provided with essential best practice guidance on working with and planning events for disabled and mobility impaired people. Please check with the venue contact about the facilities available.

Booking: It is highly recommended to book early upon arrival at the show, as spaces fill quickly. You will be asked to complete a very simple booking form at the show, on your phone or another screen device. Help is available on the day for anybody unable to use a screen or touch screen.

More info for 2026: The 2026 event is scheduled for June 12–14

The Angling Trust’s ‘Get Fishing’ campaign is proudly supported by
Angling Direct, Exclusive Retail Partner
as we all work towards getting more people fishing, more often.

The Get Fishing campaign and partnership work carried out with Get Hooked on Fishing and other delivery partners, coaches and volunteers gets more people fishing more often, and is funded by the Environment Agency from fishing licence income as part of the National Angling Strategic Services contract with the Angling Trust, and Sport England. Fishing licences for juniors under the age of 17 are free, but you still need to register and receive a licence in order to go fishing.

NOTE: Although young children who are under 13 year old do not need a licence to fish, the person supervising them needs the proper fishing licence to take hold of the rod or to help the child fish with it.
