FIVE-TIMES CHAMP SAUL KICKS OFF NEW SEA LEAGUE IN STYLE

REIGNING Angling Trust Sea League champion Saul Page has kicked off the 2025 season in style with a solid 41 points in the opening month of the competition.

The England international had already earned points from finishing third in the Asso at Deal and Hythe and second place in the West Bay Jurassic League earlier in the month before winning the Irish Winter Beach event in Wexford last week.

It was a happy week for the five-time league champion and two time Grand Final winner too, adding to his individual win with a first in the Pairs with partner Richard Yates, and heading the Teams of Four prizes alongside Richard, Ben Price, and John White.

A runaway winner in the 2024 Sea League, Saul is being chased in the January table by Gateshead’s Neil Cutler on 35 points and Old Colwyn’s Shane Russel who ended the month on 32.

This year saw two new sponsors take over the support of the competition – Anyfish Anywhere and Asso – and so far over 140 anglers have earned points under a new scoring system introduced on January 1.

Julian Shambrook, of Anyfish Anywhere, explained: “For 2025 we have introduced a new system where to top 10 per cent of anglers fishing in official Sea League accredited matches will score points, opening the league up to many more anglers.

“Congratulations to Saul for leading after the first month and to all the anglers who have scored points so far this year. There are 11 months left so it’s all to play for if you want to reach the Grand Final in 2026.”
