Grandson Ollie and hundreds more become anglers

James Roche, who is a Partnership Development Manager for the Angling Trust was almost overrun by enthusiastic newcomers at one of his recent Get Fishing events…

We invited families from across Ipswich to come down to our latest Get Fishing event at Suffolk Water Park and it was great when over 130 people answered the call to give fishing a go for the first time. That’s a huge number for one of our events but with expert angling volunteers on hand we always manage to cope!

These Get Fishing events are free, include tackle and bait and give everyone the perfect introduction to angling. The next thing to do was make sure there were plenty of fish being caught…

Nothing to worry about though – licenced angling coaches from Gipping Valley Angling Club used the brilliant bait supplied by supporter BaitTech and soon everyone was catching. This is part of the reason to come to Suffolk Water Park – the fishing is ideal for beginners with friendly staff, easy access to the waterside and a great location.

Terry Rowles who attended the event with his grandson Oliver told me “We’ll definitely be back to carry on Ollie’s fishing career. Thanks to everyone for arranging a great day” – it’s brilliant to know that this Environment Agency funded event has set a new young angler off on his angling journey.

You can find more info about events like this, tips on how to get into fishing and a guide to fisheries near you at the Get Fishing page. Hope to see you at an event too!
