This Girl Can – Bev, carp fishing and Kaizer
Last year Bev Clifford was among angling’s most enthusiastic supporters for This Girl Can’s campaign to help women overcome the pressures associated with exercising.
Bev helped prove fishing could contribute to helping more women and girls get up, out and active. This year Bev is joining in with her support again and told us:
“Fishing is something that fits in with the busy balance between my work and a love of being outdoors and active. There’s never enough time to do everything but by combining fishing for Team England, running, a publishing career and my husky Kaizer (…who needs loads of exercise too!) I somehow manage to make things work.
You might not think fishing is a particularly active or skillful sport but the techniques we use competing at international level are all relevant to my everyday angling too – it’s an unconventional way to get active but one I can easily compare to my love of trail running, walking and just being outdoors.
Casting, accuracy and focus all combine to leave me with the same feeling I get after running or spending time in the countryside – it’s a great way to experience both physical and mental benefits, and I’d urge women of all ages and backgrounds to get out and get fishing. It’s easy to find somewhere to learn to fish too at get fishing”
