The Angling Trust has just announced a new project to promote angling in Wales. ‘Fishing In Wales’ is now well underway with an official launch planned for the spring of 2020!

Fishing In Wales will

• Encourage existing Welsh anglers to go fishing more often
• Inspire lapsed anglers to go fishing again
• Attract newcomers and explaining how fishing fits with other activities
• Achieve more visits from English and UK anglers
• Promote Wales as a fishing holiday destination to the USA, and EU countries like Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France and Germany

The new Fishing In Wales website will have info on where to:

• Stay at prime fishing locations
• Buy fishing tackle locally
  and
• Hire a fishing guide or charter boat

There’s a great new website at www.fishingwales.net and follow Fishing In Wales on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – you can sign up for news and exclusive content too!

17 well-known Welsh anglers have already joined in to create content on where, how and when to fish in the rivers, lakes, canals and seas of Wales. These include Steffan Jones, George Barron and Dave Lewis. There will also be films presented by Hywel Morgan, Rob Hughes and others showing spectacular, world class fishing destinations like:

• Lllyn fishing in Snowdonia
• River fishing for wild trout and grayling
• Sea fishing for bass off the rugged Pembrokeshire coast
• Coarse fishing for pike and barbel

The Wye and Usk Foundation’s ‘Fishing Passport’ will be part of the site, to make booking day ticket fishing easy and this is great timing with 2020 being Visit Wales’s “Year of the Outdoors” – so fishing is a natural fit! The message is “…where better to enjoy fishing, an outdoors activity for people of all ages and experience, than in Wales?”

Project Marketing Manager Ceri Thomas says: “I’ve always felt that Wales is a truly special place to fish, with angling opportunities that rival many of the best locations in the world. As a Welsh angler, I’ve been incredibly passionate about Wales, its beautiful landscape, history and superb wild fishing. As well as encouraging more people to fish our wild and wonderful rivers, lakes and seas, I hope this project will serve to unite the Welsh angling community and leave a lasting legacy for the future. “Croeso i Pysgota yng Nghymru – Welcome to Fishing In Wales!”

Dave Collins, Vice Chairman of Gwent Angling Society said:“Our fisheries provide biodiversity and tranquility in an increasingly stressful and noisy world, and the social and economic impact of angling in Wales aligns perfectly with success criteria set out in the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act.”

Rob Evans, Specialist Advisor, Natural Resources Wales said: “This project will help put Wales on the map as a top quality angling destination. Wales is blessed with a wealth of angling opportunities many of which can be considered world class.”
