Openshaw back in FishO Final
The Final round of FishOMania qualification took place at the mighty Heronbrook fisheries and with 82 anglers across the complex, there were some big weights expected. The Fishery certainly didn’t disappoint with 180lb needed to make the top 6!
Top of the weight tree was Steve Openshaw, who found his way back to yet another big final. Meadow peg 40 was Steve’s home for the day and he wasted no time in getting the fish competing shallow on casters, taking carp and F1s consistently for his 274lb and shot at the 50K.
Second on the day was Michael McMillan who also broke the double ton with 216lb 15oz. Mike started on the waggler and pole, mugging Match Lake’s larger carp on pellet. With an hour to go Mike went down his edge, but it was only in a frantic last 30 minutes that he added another 9 large carp.
Sam Collett rounded out the top three in the 200’s with 208lb 2oz from Island peg 19. Sam spent nearly all the match mugging carp Shallow on pellet, putting together the lakes larger resident carp up to 10lb.
Our thanks to Neil and the team at Heronbrook fisheries for accommodating a qualifier at such late notice and to Dave Watkins and Terry Nutt on running the match.
Further thanks to all the anglers who have competed across the qualifiers this year, it’s been a tricky year logistically with Covid-19, but we thank you all for continuing to support the competition. A reminder that unfortunately the final in two weeks will be held behind closed doors, but anglers can follow on the day across Sky Sports and on our Facebook Angling Trust Competitions.
