TOMMY NAMES EXPERIENCED TRIO IN NEW-LOOK ENGLAND FREESTYLE FEEDER TEAM

World Feeder Champion Steve Ringer has been named alongside well-known anglers Adam Wakelin and Pemb Wrighting in Tommy Pickering’s Angling Trust England Freestyle Feeder squad for 2025.

The trio will join the Ringer Baits-sponsored team captain Phil Ringer, along with team regulars Alex Dockerty, and Wayne Bartholomew in a six-man line up which will head out to fish the World Championships in Portugal this July.

Both Steve and Adam will continue to be part of the highly successful England Nations Feeder squad and, along with previous U20 float silver medallist Pemb, bring a wealth of international experience to the Freestyle set up.

After two challenging years, Team England has overhauled its strategy, emphasizing an enhanced international knowledge and rigorous preparation.

This event – held on the massive Odivelas Dam reservoir in the south of the country – will see the team adopt free running Method feeder (Freestyle) tactics using maximum 25cm hook lengths alongside the use of pellets/wafters etc and the ability to hair rig. A limited quantity of natural baits is also allowed.

Following its successful role as host of the World Club Feeder Championship in June 2024, this expansive venue promises exciting competition. Spanning approximately 5km long by 3km wide, it is one of the largest dams in the region and contains a diverse array of species, including carp, barbel, carassio, catfish, bleak, and even largemouth bass!

“This venue sounds fantastic, and we’re excited to get started. We’re putting in the work to make sure we know the water and the tactics it demands,” said captain Phil Ringer. “On top of the 5 days official practice before the event we’ve got three trips planned to Odivelas Dam to allow the team to refine tactics and adapt to the venue’s unique characteristics.”

The team will be guided by an expert management crew of Tom Pickering, Nigel Franks, Mark Morris, and Mark Eves. A key change for this year is the expansion of team sizes from five to six anglers, with one serving as a reserve. Notably, each nation is also limited to a single team in this fast-growing discipline, raising the stakes for all competitors.

The team would also like to express its sincere gratitude to Nick Speed and Joe Jagger for their valuable contributions over the previous two years.

The Angling Trust and England Freestyle Feeder team extends heartfelt gratitude to sponsors Ringer Baits and Dragon Energy Drinks whose support plays a pivotal role in enabling their journey to success.

* The Freestyle Method Feeder World Championships takes place on July 12–13, 2025.
