STEVEN REID CLINCHES 2025 SILVERFISH FINAL

The 2025 SilverFish final was one of the closest ever with just two pounds separating the top four!

Off the back of a tricky winter, it was great to see a few silvers on the feed and with temperatures soaring on Saturday March 8, Meadowlands Fishery gave us a great final.

It was seasoned finalist Steven Reid that took home the beautiful trophy, having placed third two years back, Steve went two better lifting the trophy and £3,500 to boot!

A draw on fancied Warren Lake peg 4 left Steve with a bit of space and he made the most of it after a tricky start netting decent skimmers short at 6m for 22lb 3oz.

Steve said: “I’m over the moon to win SilverFish, it’s a superb competition and I can’t wait to defend my title next year.”

Running Steve all the way was Daiwa ace Adam Wakelin with 21lb 8oz from peg 43 on the pump bank on Lambsdown Lake. Adam fished a cracking match long on the pole at 14m pinging casters over groundbait and catching everything that swims. Unfortunately, this included a few too many carp, which spoilt his skimmer fishing in the last two hours of this silvers-only event.

Rounding out the top three was another England international Sean Ashby. Sean drew in an unfancied area of Warren on peg 9 but used all his experience on the venue to winkle out a good run of skimmers for 21lb 5oz. Unfortunately, he pricked a decent fish with minutes to go that could have seen him lift the trophy!

Fourth place went to Frankie Gianoncelli, whose rich form over the past few seasons hasn’t gone unnoticed and he’s just been named in the England European Champs squad for 2025.

A huge thanks to all involved in the competition this year – all the venues which hosted qualifiers, our amazing match organisers, and all the anglers who took part.
