DRENNAN BARNSLEY WIN TEAM COMMERICAL NATIONAL
The Drennan Barnsley Blacks machine continued its relentless march towards perfection as the team won this year’s Angling Trust Team Commercial National at Lindholme Lakes over the Easter weekend – their third team win of the the year!
Scoring 30 points from their 10 anglers, Barnsley just got the nod over outgoing champions Team UK on 33, with Nytro Quaker picking up the bronze medals with 35 points.
The win means that the Blacks have won the three biggest team events of 2025 so far, this victory sitting alongside top spots in the Angling Trust Winter League and Angling Trust Sensas International Challenge competitions.
Section wins for Andy Geldart, Rob Swan, and skipper Matt Godfrey spearheaded Barnsley’s charge on a venue that was tricky on certain lakes, and natural baits proved to be the key with maggots, worms, and casters essential to catch a mix of fish, not just carp and F1s.
On the individual front, Lindholme regular Jim Hall picked up the gold medal with a fine 80k 775g haul of carp and F1s from corner peg 1 on the Strip Lake, the Team UK man catching on maggots fished short and then long up the end bank.
That was well clear of his teammate Harry Bignell, the former FishOMania champion finishing with 68k 125g of carp and F1s on shallow tactics from the arm on the Bonsal Lake.
England U20 international Alfie Swieton showed his class to take the bronze medal thanks to a 68k 075g catch of big F1s taken on the Jigga from Loco Lake.
Next up for Barnsley are the World Club Champs where they join 2024 Division 1 Nationals winners Daiwa Gordon League in representing England at the legendary Inniscara Reservoir, Ireland in July.
