Rousing comeback bags England top six finish

A great start and end to this year’s Men’s Shore World Angling Championships saw the Angling Trust Team England side secure sixth place after a four-day fishing marathon in Portugal, thanks in no small part to a great final day of action!
Fished on the beaches around Portugal’s Vila Real de Santo António, the team of Sam Collier, Saul Page, Steve Rathbone, Danny Parker and Ian Dancey enjoyed a great opening match before struggling on days two and three, only to pull things back and shoot up the leaderboard in the dying embers of the championship.
Day one produced fourth spot overall with Danny taking a second in section, Sam a third, Saul fourth and Steve twelfth, with only Ian struggling. Day two was tougher, the team finishing eleventh on the day as Saul scored a second, Sam a ninth, Steve another twelfth and Ian and Danny fourteenth in their sections.
The penultimate day was no better, with twelfth spot, Sam being the only angler to score single figures with seventh in section. Danny, Saul and Ian all posted 12 points, Steve the man to suffer this time round with a low score.
However, morale remained high and superb set of scores on the final day saw the team take fourth in the match, Sam bagging second in his section, Saul sixth, Ian and Steve sevenths and Danny 15 points. That shot them up the pecking order into sixth spot, no mean feat against 20 other nations.
Individually, Sam led the way with twelfth spot overall, Saul filling sixteenth, Danny 44th and Steve and Ian in 65th and 66th spots respectively.
