Saul Page wins fifth Sea League title in a row!

The word ‘dominant’ doesn’t really do justice to the vice-like grip that Saul Page currently has on the Angling Trust/Anyfish Anywhere Asso Fishing Line UK Sea League – unbeatable would be a better way to describe his record in this premier event, with victory in 2025’s league making it an incredible five in a row for the Kent-based star.
Following up wins in 2021, 22 and 23 and 24, the Deal ace finished the most recent campaign with a healthy 30-point margin over the chasing pack, racking up 167 points to take the £2,000 top prize. Closest to him was current Grand final champion and fellow Kent angler Tom Wells on 137 points, winning him £1,500, Gateshead rod Neil Cutler earning himself a grand with third on 127 points.
Next on the agenda for the England international is the big Grand Final, which takes place next month on marks very familiar to himself – Hythe in Kent, just a few miles along the coast from his base. That means home advantage, but what will that actually be worth once the fishing begins on February 21?
“It’s an advantage in one way as I know the beach better than someone who lives 300 miles away, but also, it’s a disadvantage in that I know where I want to be and where I don’t want to be! Being local is definitely a leg up though,” Saul said. “How the beach will fish is all going to be down to the weather. If the sea is rough and coloured then we’re speed fishing for dogfish, whiting and the odd ray, whereas if it is calm and clear it’ll be a more patient match for plaice and dabs – two very different scenarios.”
Winning the latest league has also been tougher, as Saul acknowledges he’s there to be shot at given previous successes. He loves it though, as it only drives him harder to put the effort in and score points.
“More and more anglers are pushing, trying to knock me off my perch, which is what it’s all about,” he explained. “As a result, I’ve had to push myself even harder, putting in more time and work in the garage tying rigs, digging bait and travelling. I’ve always maintained though, that the more you put in, the more you get out in terms of points scored. Now there’s the big final to win against 45 of the best in the UK such as Tom Wells, Darren Bond, Rob Tuck, Ben Price and Shane Russell. It’ll be tough, but I wouldn’t want it any other way!”
A huge thanks from the Angling Trust to our sponsors Anyfish Anywhere and ASSO, plus all of the anglers who took part and Ian Bowell for the monumental task of collating the results from across the last 12 months!
