Pollution spotlight: Oxford

Yes, it has been very wet. Rivers swollen and many fields flooded. Water meadows doing what they were meant to do? But should this be an excuse to continue to pollute our rivers with raw sewage, often from storm overflows and sewage treatment works that have suffered years of under investment?

Reading and District Angling Association’s bailiff Gary Clayton and drone pilot Des Warne witnessed raw sewage pouring out of the Oxford Water Treatment Plant on Saturday 6th February just below the city at Sandford.

We cannot keep treating our rivers as an open sewer. Anglers Against Pollution is fighting for more actions to address this. Better monitoring, better enforcement, more funding and, if necessary new laws to protect our waters and our fish from pollution.
