Volunteer Floating Pennywort Removal Event | River Weaver | Northwich
As part of Invasive Non Native Species (INNS) Week – 22nd – 28th June 2026, The Angling Trust are holding a volunteer event, removing Floating Pennywort from the The River Weaver in Northwich on Friday June 26th between 10.30am and 14.30.
First naturalised in 1990 as a result of discarded plants from garden ponds, Floating Pennywort can grow up to 20cm per day and can quickly dominate a waterbody forming thick mats, impeding water flow and amenity use. The plant out-competes native species by blocking out light, causing deoxygenation, obstructing air breathing insects from reaching the water surface and it can reduce water temperatures.
Our events are inclusive as possible with physical and non-physical roles available on the day. We encourage everyone to get involved.
