Spring Into Fishing sees record numbers on the bank

The 2018 Spring Into Fishing campaign saw six events take place throughout March and April around the country, and with over 800 people registered for these events in total, the campaign goes down as a big success, seeing record numbers signing up and going fishing.

The weather did its best to hamper proceedings, but faces young and old still turned up on the bank for each of the events taking place in the North East, Yorkshire, East and West Midlands, and the South East and South West of the country.

Spring Into Fishing is run by the Angling Trust and funded by the Environment Agency with support from Fishingmegastore.com. The result is six completely free family fishing activity days which have been a great way to get participants out doing something different this spring, and which help children learn new outdoor skills.

The Spring Into Fishing campaign is just part of the ongoing drive to introduce fishing to more people around the country, as well as reigniting a passion for the sport in those who have lapsed from fishing – all part of the Get Fishing campaign.

All those who registered for a Spring Into Fishing event were automatically entered into a draw for the chance to win a share of £350 of Fishingmegastore.com vouchers.

Mr B Wardle from Notts. won the £50 Fishingmegastore.com gift voucher generously donated by Glasgow Angling Centre to encourage more newcomers into angling and said: “We never expected to win anything and are so surprised. The boys are looking forward to spending the voucher on their small but growing tackle collection since experiencing the sport, I’m sure they will put it to good use.”

2/1st Hurst Scout Group won the £100 Fishingmegastore.com gift voucher and Scout Leader Alex Singleton told us: “This is a great boost to the young scouts’ adventure in angling – we’ll put the prize to really good use and the new kit will be a brilliant bit of encouragement for them all – thank you!”

Following the success of the campaign, attention turns towards World Fishing Day which takes place on 23rd June around the UK, with four flagship events run by the Angling Trust, flanked by a host of other events run by partner clubs and fisheries around the UK in a global effort to unite anglers on one day around the world. World Fishing Day is the first ever attempt to bring anglers all over the world together to celebrate the joys of angling, bring new people into the sport and highlight the incredible power of angling to make positive changes in the world and in people’s lives.
