MERSEY BASIN SPECIES HUNT – FIVE WEEKS IN
The fishing has been far from easy in the opening weeks of the Mersey Basin Species Hunt… But that hasn’t stopped a dedicated few from getting points on the board!
Across the 62 anglers taking part, 17 different species have been submitted to date – and the race remains wide open across the different categories as we head into August. With bonus points to be added at the end of the competition for longest fish, it’s all set to be a thriller!
In the Overall League, just one fish currently separates the top 5 anglers – with Phil Bennett’s 7 species (21 points) edging out Mike Duddy, Graham Gibson, Tim Mayall and Tim Poulter on 6 (18 points). The ‘local’ leagues look equally tight at the top, as you can see below!
Things get particularly interesting in the race for specimen captures, with many reported fish unmeasured and therefore unclaimed. Remember, it’s 3 points per species, but a whopping 5 additional bonus points are awarded for the longest at the end of the competition – regardless of whether it’s a micro minnow or colossal carp!
Our thanks to everyone who has taken part so far. Entries are still open, and you can take part by signing up on the Angling Trust website here.
