Angling Trust supports men’s mental health at ‘Together for Men’ conference
As part of our support for Safeguarding Adults Week and International Men’s Day, the Angling Trust were in attendance at Leicester Cricket Club for the ‘Together for Men’ conference.
The well attended event, organised by Leicester City Council, included representation from a number of men’s mental health support groups including the Samaritans, the Police Service and the Lighthouse Charity.
Other speakers included local volunteer groups such as Andy’s Man Club, Active Together, Gambling Harms and the Neighbourhood Mental Health Cafe.
The event highlighted the demographic of men most prone to mental health issues, and the likely contributing factors, whilst providing interesting evidence for the escalation towards suicide when men don’t open up and reach out.
The speakers gave numerous examples of how life changing that vital first step can be, such as picking up the phone or attending a support group. In fact, many of the speakers representing mental health support groups had been helped from the brink and now give up their time and valuable experience to help others.
