Mersey Basin Species Hunt Returns for 2026
The Mersey Basin Species Hunt is BACK and better than ever!
Following the success of the inaugural event last year, the Mersey Basin Species Hunt makes its return for 2026 – with a slight twist.
While the overall format of the competition will remain the same, the time available for fishing has now been lengthened to the full extent of the coarse fishing season – more than double that of last year.
Alex Clegg, Competitions Development Manager for the Angling Trust, said:
“I’m delighted to see our partnership with Mersey Rivers Trust continue, and the competition return for another year. Building on a now successful format, the extra time available to anglers makes for an even more exciting event – and more importantly, one that isn’t scuppered by low summer river levels!
“With all the same great prizes on offer from last year, I hope we can continue to attract as much interest as possible and gain further valuable insight into fish populations across the catchment. The event is fun, free and open to all, so please do give it a go!”
The competition starts on the 16th of June 2026. For more details and to register your place, visit: https://anglingtrust.net/our-competitions/coarse-competitions/mersey-basin-species-hunt/
