Overview for coaching course candidates

We’ll help you with the process of becoming a licensed coach when we know which event you’ve selected and have confirmed your booking.

Following the introduction of new requirements, all coaches will be asked to undertake an appropriate enhanced DBS check once a place on their selected event has been confirmed.  In most cases we should have the required DBS clearance by the time your Level 1 or Level 2 certification has been applied for and confirmed by the awarding body.

Please note that if you take the same qualification through a different organisation (for example Angling Cymru or Ulster Angling Federation) there will be different fees and arrangements.

If you’re taking a Level 1 qualification through Angling Trust’s Coaching Centre, when your place on a specific event is confirmed we’ll contact you and ask you to do the following:

► Confirm permission for Angling Trust to continue storing securely and ethically the personal data you’ve supplied in your course application;

► Undertake an appropriate Enhanced DBS check which Angling Trust will process for you and provide the relevant identity documentation;

► Provide a suitable photograph of yourself for your ID card (images of you are classed as part of your personal data).

If you’re taking a Level 2 qualification through Angling Trust’s Coaching Centre but you don’t hold a Level 1 coach licence, when your place on a specific event is confirmed we’ll contact you and ask you to do the following:

► Confirm permission for Angling Trust to continue storing securely and ethically the personal data you’ve supplied in your course application;

► Undertake an appropriate Enhanced DBS check which Angling Trust will process for you and provide the relevant identity documentation;

► Provide a suitable photograph of yourself for your ID card (images of you are classed as art of your personal data).

If you’re taking a Level 2 qualification through Angling Trust’s Coaching Centre and you already hold a Level 1 coach licence, after you’ve qualified we’ll ask you to do the following:

► Confirm permission for Angling Trust to continue storing securely and ethically the personal data you’ve supplied;

► Confirm that you wish to convert your Level 1 licence to Level 2.

In most cases the DBS check relating to your Level 1 licence should be suitable for converting that licence to Level 2, but it may be necessary to update it (for example if it is nearing its 3-year review date).  We’ll also use the same photo of you, unless you prefer to supply a different one.

Important: if you already hold any category of DBS certificate, please DON’T send the document or any kind of copy of it to Angling Trust.  We would first need to find out whether AT would be entitled to ask for sight of the document, and if so we would advise how to arrange this.

► Not all Enhanced Disclosure certificates will be appropriate

► Not all employers/governing bodies may be entitled to view your Disclosure certificate, even with your permission.
