Want to “Get Back Into Angling”? Dean Asplin’s blog tells you how…
Our Partnership Development Manager Dean Asplin has helped organise special events for people who haven’t been fishing for a while but want to get back into angling. Here’s Dean’s latest blog…
We’ve been running free events to help anglers go fishing again after a break from the sport. The informal four hour Get Back Into Angling “lessons” are a great way to brush up on skills and find out about the latest tackle and methods. We aim to give everyone who attends enough confidence and know-how to start fishing again immediately!
One of the anglers who came along sent us a cracking email which made me really pleased that we’ve helped yet another person to return to the sport they love.
“Dear Paul
It was pleasure to meet you on Saturday morning and I found the course very interesting and informative. I know we covered a lot of ground in a short time but that was just what I was looking for and I now feel well prepared to fish once again in the knowledge that I will be able to understand what’s going on in much more detail and to ensure that I am selecting the most appropriate tackle and flies for the prevailing conditions.
I very much appreciated the time and energy you put into the course and have already started searching the catalogues to update my tackle etc!
With thanks and best wishes.
John”
Coach Paul Maslin who ran the day was chuffed to get this positive feedback too.
John came to a Get Back Into Fly Fishing session, but there are also events for anglers to try – or to get back into -carp, predator and general coarse fishing.
Everything is included on the day so there’s no need to bring tackle, bait or flies unless you want to. We’ll even help arrange the fishing licence for the day, or you can go online and get one in advance. Because all Get Back Into Angling events are run by Level 2 Qualified Licensed Angling Coaches you get top quality advice that’s worth at least £50.
If you want to start fishing again search ‘Get Fishing‘ events. Can’t find a session near you? Just get in touch with my colleagues Danny and Dave (details below) and they’ll make every effort to arrange something that matches what you need.

The “Get Fishing” campaign and its Get Back Into Angling initiative is run by the Angling Trust to increase the number of people being introduced or returning to angling across the country. Anyone interested in going fishing can find angling events at ‘Get Fishing Near You‘. The events listed are for all participants regardless of gender, age, fitness or previous angling experience.
Angling Participation and the Get Fishing campaign is supported by Environment Agency fishing licence income and helps to introduce thousands of people to fishing each year.
