Get Fishing News

Spring into Fishing – Get Fishing beginner angling events all around the country. Find an event near you and learn how to fish

Billingham Angling Club (B.A.C) have been supporting Get Fishing Events as part of the #SpringintoFishing 2025 campaign.

With the venue being an urban pond, Billingham Angling Club have worked closely with a number of community groups linking in with their Summer activities and liaising strongly with Stockton Borough Council to create more opportunities to get people fishing more often.

Grandad Dale (pictured below) with his grandson at a recent Get Fishing event hosted by the club during the current Spring into Fishing initiative told us:

“I can’t thank you and your team enough!  My grandsons are so pleased and happy being involved with all that Billingham Angling Club do at Charlton’s Pond. It has given me the opportunity to engage with them outdoors in beautiful surroundings “

The bream pictured above is one of those kindly donated by the Environment Agency and it’s Calverton Fish farm as part of it’s effort to encourage more people to go fishing, and improve waterways and angling habitats – they have obviously grown on quite well and are thriving in their new home!

The club has received fantastic feedback on their events and are looking forward to a summer full of Get Fishing Activities.

As you can see, simply going fishing and getting away from screens and distractions for a while is a proven way to strengthen family bonds and break down the generation barrier. Discovering a common interest and some gentle encouragement to reconnect with these beautiful venues that exist right on our doorsteps, thanks to the efforts of angling clubs can help you and the family spend time together at weekends and during school holidays.

Events are added to our website and social media all the time and at the moment, during our popular Spring into Fishing programme, every single day! So please check our Get Fishing events diary for new events near to you.

The Get Fishing campaign is funded by

The Angling Trust’s Get Fishing campaign to get more people fishing more often is funded by the Environment Agency from fishing licence income as part of the National Angling Strategic Services contract with the Angling Trust, and Sport England. Children under 13 do not need a licence, and licences for children aged between 13 and 16 are free but you still need to register and receive a licence before you go fishing. You can get a licence for the full year, for 8 days (ideal for holidays!) or just a day’s fishing.

NOTE: Although young children who are under 13 year old do not need a licence to fish, the person supervising them needs to have the proper fishing licence before they take hold of the fishing rod or help the child fish with it.
