Hazel takes her grandson fishing for the first time!
Our Partnership Development Manager Dean Asplin has recently helped a grandmother and grandson who wanted to try fishing together for the first time and has a suggestion if you want to start fishing or get back into angling… Dean writes:
I was contacted by Hazel who wanted to take her grandson Cameron fishing for the first time, but on the weekend they were spending together couldn’t find an event on Get Fishing However, I made a quick phone call which soon resulted in Hazel being introduced to Level 2 Licensed Coach Terry Smith and Bitterwell Lakes, the venue Terry uses for our Let’s Go Family Fishing events.
Terry very kindly agreed to organise a special angling session just for Hazel and Cameron and even lent them the fishing equipment that they needed! We’ll always try to get newcomers fishing even outside of our main programmes – so if in doubt why not contact one of our Angling Development Managers (contact details below) to see how they can help?
After the session I was really pleased to receive this feedback and the pictures above from Hazel who emailed me to say:
Hi Dean,
Just to report back on the fishing experience at Bitterwell lake. Cameron caught a half a dozen tiddlers and was quite happy with that enjoying the tuition and getting used to handling maggots and slippery fish!
Thanks for setting it up. He wants to go again when he’s down this way.
Kind regards,
Hazel.
For me and my team at the Angling Trust, helping people discover the wonders of fishing is the most rewarding part of the job and our dedicated network of Licensed Coaches look forward to meeting you at the fun, safe and friendly events we list at Get Fishing Near You

The “Get Fishing” campaign is run by the Angling Trust to increase the number of people being introduced to angling across the country. Anyone interested in going fishing can find angling events at Get Fishing Near You. The events listed are for all participants regardless of gender, age, fitness or previous angling experience.
Angling Participation and the Get Fishing campaign is supported by Environment Agency fishing licence income and helps to introduce thousands of people to fishing each year.
