UNSTOPPABLE BARNSLEY WIN THE WINTER LEAGUE!

After a disappointing result in 2024’s Angling Trust Winter League final, Drennan Barnsley Blacks made no mistakes in this year’s big clash, lifting the silverware once again with a magnificent 39 point score across their 10 anglers.
That put them four in front of local side Daiwa Tackle & Bates, with another Eastern-based team Sensas Hot Rods grabbing the bronze medals on 48 points.
Victory marks Barnsley’s fourth Winter League win in the last five years and came from a moody Decoy Lakes complex and a fen drains system that bounced back after a tough winter to fish incredibly well.
Leading the champs home was Andy Geldart with top weight at Decoy – a 70-100 net of carp on bread and maggots on the long pole from the Yew Lake. That was 12 kilos clear of runner up Jake Fowles, of Daiwa Gordon League, who was opposite Andy on the same lake from and took 60-750 of carp on dobbed bread.
On the drains, the Carrot Wash section of Glassmoor Bank produced the top two, Preston Innovations NW man Jack Turner netting a dozen tench on worm for top drains weight with 13-530.
Second was Sensas Hotrods’ Kye Jerrom who was a couple of pegs away and finished with 12-150 of tench and a lone big perch.

Thanks to all of the stewards for their help, the controlling clubs for use of waters, and a special thanks to Alex Bates and his team of anglers for fishing various drains over the winter months to try and find some fish to put sections on!
