English Fly Fishing Association backs new Best Practice Guide

The Angling Trust is delighted to announce that the English Fly Fishing Association (EFFA) is the latest angling organisation to sign up to give its backing to our Best Practice Guide for Freshwater Angling – a comprehensive resource designed to promote responsible, sustainable, and safe angling across the UK.

This free, downloadable guide provides anglers of all levels with clear, practical advice on how to care for fish, protect the environment, support fellow anglers, and follow legal and safety guidelines.

EFFA’s President David Moore commented:

“The English Fly Fishing Association was founded nearly a century ago with the aim of promoting traditional fly fishing for trout and good sporting ethics. Today, we, like all anglers, are interested in wider issues especially protecting our fish and their environment and encouraging more people to enjoy the benefits of angling.

“This Best Practice Guide is an excellent production and a benchmark for all freshwater anglers, another great initiative from the Angling Trust.”

The guide includes expert tips on fish handling, unhooking techniques, safe rig use, water temperature awareness, and biosecurity. It also highlights the importance of community involvement, environmental stewardship, and legal compliance.
