Rampant England win Euro Feeder Cup
Dominant is the only word to describe the Drennan England Feeder Team’s performance at this week’s European Feeder Cup in Belgium, the reigning Feeder World Champions not only winning the team race with plenty to spare, as they also took four of the top six individual spots – including first and second!
Fished on the massive Maasplas Geistingen gravel works near Kinrooi, England finished the three days of fishing with a 53-point score, 15.5 points clear of hosts Belgium Red on 68.5, England’s other representatives the Team England Masters Feeder side securing third spot on 94.
Leading England home and retaining his individual title won 12 months ago on the same venue is Steve Ringer Fishing, but he needed total weight to win as his teammate ADAM WAKELIN FISHING tied with him on five points. Steve’s massive 35-740 aggregate saw him home comfortably against Adam’s 17-880. Joining the pair in the top six are Mac Stephens in fourth and Will Freeman in fifth, both men scoring six points. top rods for the Masters team are skipper Darren Cox Fishing and debutant Dale Malpas, both returning nine-point scores.

Day one opened in perfect style for England, winning the day with a superb 13 points, 10 clear of Belgium Red as Steve, Mac and Adam all won their sections, Will taking second, Rob Wootton third and Lee Kerry fifth. Steve also won the match outright with 13-330. The Masters sat in third with 31 points thanks to a second from Darren, third from Rich Vaughan, fourths from Dale and Eddie Bridon Maver UK Match angler, Shaun Stenton’s seven points and Richie Hull with 11.
The second day saw Belgium Red make a bit of a comeback as they won the match with 17.5 points, England racking up 24 in second and the Masters third on 28. That didn’t change the overall top three, but it did narrow the gap between England and the Belgians.
It was Wil’s turn to top the scores for the champs with a section win, Steve taking second, Adam third, Lee and Mac fourths and Rob 10 points. Despite being second in section, Steve was also second in the match to keep him well in the hunt for individual honours. Newcomer Dale top-scored for the Masters with a section win, Darren bagging second, Shaun third, Rich and Eddie a pair of sevenths and Shaun eighth in section.
Any hopes of a Belgian comeback being completed were dashed on the final day though, as England flew past the post with a terrific 16-point score that won the day easily. Closest to them was the Germany 1 side on 23.5, Belgium Red nabbing third on 28 and the Masters fourth on 35.
Section wins from Mac and Adam, seconds from Steve and Lee, a third for Will and seventh for Rob got the job done, Steve again framing with 12-940 for second on the day. A section second made Eddie the best scorer for the Masters, backed Dale in fourth, Darren and Richie in fifth, Shaun on seven points and Rich with 12.
Victory for England makes up for the second-place finish in last year’s event and means double gold in the two biggest international feeder events there are – England are on top of the world and rightly so!
