Angling Trust supports Safeguarding Adults Week aimed at stopping abuse before it happens
Next week (17–21 November) marks Safeguarding Adults Week 2025, and the Angling Trust is proud to support this important campaign to raise awareness among clubs, fisheries and individual anglers.
Organised by the Ann Craft Trust, this year’s theme focuses on prevention – acting now to stop abuse before it takes place. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and next week is an opportunity for the angling community to reflect on how we can all help create safe, welcoming environments for everyone who takes part in our sport.
While safeguarding often focuses on responding to concerns of abuse or neglect, Safeguarding Adults Week 2025 aims to shift the conversation towards prevention. It’s about recognising potential risks early, building trust within our communities, and ensuring that people feel empowered to speak up when something doesn’t seem right.
Di Murray, Safeguarding Lead Officer at the Angling Trust, said:
“It’s much better to prevent abuse from occurring in the first place than it is to respond to instances of harm, neglect, or isolation. We all need the courage and confidence to act on our instincts and the knowledge to know what to do if concerns arise.”
Throughout the week, the Angling Trust will be sharing safeguarding tools, advice and resources to help clubs, fisheries and individual anglers strengthen their safeguarding practices and promote a culture of safety and respect.
Di Murray added:
“We believe that working in partnership allows us to share knowledge, learn from others, and build safer, more resilient communities across angling.”
Keep an eye on our social media channels for updates throughout the week and join the conversation by sharing your own ideas and examples of good safeguarding practice. Use #SafeguardingAdultsWeek and tag the Angling Trust to show your support.
