Consultatives & River Associations
As important contributors to the health and wellbeing of our river systems and the aquatic environment, local and regional consultative and river association groups are welcomed as members of the Angling Trust. We champion your concerns and interests to Government and its agencies including the Environment Agency, Canal and Rivers Trust and Natural England on all fishery related matters including predation, pollution and environmental legislation. We will keep you informed about Angling Trust campaigns and other activities affecting angling and fisheries with regular e-newsletters and our annual publication ‘The Angler’.
The annual subscription for consultative and river association members is just £60 and includes our £10 million insurance cover for your organisation’s activities. The insurance package includes: public liability, employer’s liability and trustee’s liability. Find out more about insurance provided by Howden Insurance Brokers here.
Consultatives and river associations cannot join Fish Legal. However if a consultative or river association comprises several clubs and individual riparian owners, each of those clubs and owners can join Fish Legal in their own right to be eligible for our lawyers to give advice or take legal action on their behalf for a fishery related matter. Find out more about Fish Legal membership here.

Fish Legal
Consultatives and River Associations may not join Fish Legal but are welcome to make a donation to support its work. This is to avoid any confusion about whether Fish Legal might be able to take legal action on behalf of Consultatives or River Associations, which it cannot.
Fish Legal can only take cases for riparian owners, member clubs and fisheries that have joined Fish Legal in their own right. If a Consultative or River Association comprises several clubs and individual riparian owners, each of those clubs and owners must join Fish Legal in their own right to be eligible for its lawyers to give advice or take legal action in the event of a pollution incident, or anything else which might damage their fishing.
