TEAM RAMMY WIN CADET NATIONAL WHILE SENSAS FUTURE NETWORKS SCOOP JUNIOR HONOURS

Team Rammy and Sensas Future Networks scooped the major medals at the Angling Trust Guru-sponsored Cadet and Junior Nationals at Warrington’s Partridge Lakes today.

Even the summer showers couldn’t dampen the spirits of 96 of the country’s best young anglers who took part in the two events over the venue’s Spey, Marsh, Ribbon, and the Covey lakes.

And the fish didn’t seem bothered by the change in weather from a week of sunny conditions as carp and F1s fed well. In fact, over 22kg was needed to win the Cadet contest and 54kg-plus for the individual Junior title.

The Cadets – aged between 10 and 12 years – fished a four-hour match across Spey, Marsh, Willow, and Piper lakes.

Team Rammy – representing Ramsbottom AA – finished with an incredible nine section points ahead of Telford and District on 17, and Rammy Allstars on 19.

They also had the double delight of celebrating the individual gold as Harry Thwaites, pegged on Ribbon 20, brought 22k 650 to the scales.

Individual runner up was Will Phillips, from Rammy Allstars, with 17k 945g from Marsh 12, and third fell to Jake Whitfield, of Worksop, who caught 17k 650 from Spey 14.

Partridge’s Covey lakes 1 to 6 provided the action for the 13 to 15 age group Junior National, which was a five-hour match and saw the majority of the big weights of the day.

Sensas Future Networks carded 12 points in a tough match which saw runners up Team Rammy Juniors finish with 19, and Worksop and District on 29.

It was Rammy’s Ted Stewart who claimed the individual Junior title with 54k 950g from Covey 6’s peg 162. This was too good for Leigh Osprey Black’s Toby Greenhalgh with 39k 900g from Covey 5, peg 121. Bill Langley, of Team Rammy, earned the bronze medal after he worked hard for 37k 600g at peg 126 on Covey 5.

Ted’s 54kg-plus catch was the highest weight recorded over the weekend of the Cadet, Junior and Youth Nationals, earning him an invite from Matchroom Sport to the Fish O Mania final on July 27.

Some of the youngsters were making their debut at the event and rubbed shoulders with several Guru England U15 anglers, with a good spirit shown by all the anglers. Along with their medals, the winning team and the top three individual anglers all collected prizes from Nationals sponsor Tackle Guru, while every competitor received a 2024 commemorative medallion for representing their respective clubs at the events.

* The Angling Trust would like to say a huge thanks to all the team at Partridge Lakes for hosting the two National Championships, Tackle Guru for their continued support, and to all the parents and coaches who work tirelessly to support and develop our young anglers.
