BRUSH SWEEPS AWAY OPPOSITION TO WIN SECOND TIDEFEST CROWN

Celebrating its eleventh year, the River Thames around Kew, Chiswick, Barnes and the Strand on the Green in West London once again hosted the Angling Trust TideFest event that saw 40 anglers battle it out for the top prize and trophy.

Held as part of an annual celebration of the Thames in London, rain helped freshen the river up and the fishing certainly benefited from it, seeing roach, bream, skimmers, dace, chub and even sea trout and bass landed across the four sections.

Winning the match and lifting the Mike Martin-Davies trophy plus the £400 prize was Daiwa Gordon League angler Mark Brush, who was presented his prizes by Thames legend Keith Arthur.

Mark knows what it is to win TideFest, having been champion back in 2022. Drawing in Zone B at the bottom of the Strand on the Green section, he weighed in 23-8-0 of roach and skimmers on feeder and float tactics.

Second overall and winner of Zone A was Dan Wooding with 17-6-0 of roach and skimmers on the feeder from his peg just below Kew Bridge. Tony Rice completed the top three by taking out Zone C at Chiswick with 15-11-0 of roach and dace on the float. That left Zone D at Barnes to be decided, Michael Dalziel winning that with 8-12-0, his net including a chub and a sea trout!

“Old Father Thames never fails to surprise! Just when we were getting worried about the absence of those big bream that were winning the match in the early years, along comes a load of beautiful roach and a healthy number of young skimmers and quality dace,” said TideFest organiser Martin Salter. “There can’t be many matches in major capital cities where anglers can expect to catch and weigh in such a diverse range of species from bass, mullet and sea trout to roach, chub and bream.”
