SINGLE FISH WINS BRITISH PIKE CHAMPS FINAL 2024

Most matches need dozens of fish to get you over the winning line, but the world of pike fishing is a little different as one bite and one fish can secure the glory – as Trevor Avis found out in this year’s Angling Trust British Pike Championships final!

A lone predator weighing 13lb 2oz was enough to give the man from Bourne, Lincolnshire the trophy and £500 winnings after five hours of battle on the Whittlesey AA controlled Glassmor Bank and 20ft Drains. The winning tactic was a popped up smelt fished down the middle of his peg on the 20ft, his run coming after an hour and proving to be his only bite of the day!

Second place and £400 in winnings went to Liam Wade with another lone fish, this time a 12lb 6oz pike also caught early in the match, Phillip Watts securing third with a 10lb 13oz pike.

Junior winner was Charlie Wade with a 1lb 5oz jack, Rita Clarke taking the ladies title despite not troubling the scales on a day when 28 pike were caught across the whole match.

The Angling Trust would like to thank Whittlesey AA for use of their waters, organiser Andy Jackson and his team of stewards on the day and all of the anglers and organisers that have supported this year’s event in the many qualifiers up and down the country.
