Amie Battams, a passionate fly-fishing angler and social media influencer, has accepted an invitation to become the latest Angling Trust Ambassador.

Since taking up fishing during the 2020 Covid lockdown, Amie’s entertaining and humorous fishing videos at home and abroad have brought her thousands of followers on Youtube and other social media platforms.

“Once I started fishing, I was hooked,” said Amie. “I’ve always had a love of nature, but I never used to know anyone who went fishing.

“The great thing about fishing is anyone can do it. There’s so much available out there, whether you live in the countryside or city, and urban fishing is fantastic.”

That urban fishing includes catching fish on the fly at her local river, the Wandle, which she regularly features in her videos.

In the four years since landing her first rainbow, Amie has become a powerful advocate for inclusivity in the sport and has frequently highlighted the challenges faced by women anglers. She has also added her voice to the campaign to halt pollution of our rivers and seas, and recently took part in the March for Clean Waters in Westminster, supported by the Angling Trust’s Anglers Against Pollution, to call on the new government to halt the decline in rivers.

Amie said: “I’m looking forward to working with the Angling Trust and supporting their causes, particularly the campaign to safeguard the health of our rivers and seas. At last, polluters are being held accountable for their actions and that’s because of organisations like the Angling Trust.

“I would like to see more anglers get behind the Trust. Together we can protect the wonderful places we love to fish to enable us all to enjoy our hobbies and connect with nature.”

Jamie Cook, CEO of the Angling Trust, said: “Fishing is more than just a pastime, it fosters a deep connection with nature, promotes mental and physical wellbeing and brings people together from all walks of life. It is an activity that belongs to everyone, regardless of background or experience.

“Through her engaging and influential social media presence, Amie has helped to promote the benefits that angling can bring to individuals and communities alike. She has also played a vital role in highlighting the challenges that anglers face, including the impact of pollution on our waters and environment.

“I am thrilled to welcome Amie as an Angling Trust Ambassador. Her passion for fishing and commitment to protecting our natural resources align perfectly with our mission. I look forward to collaborating with her to inspire more people to take up angling and to protect the waters that make fishing possible.”
