This Girl Can make fishing fit with a busy life
Sport England’s This Girl Can initiative identified that a fear of judgement can stop many women and girls from joining in with sport. To support this, the Get Fishing campaign reached out to women across the nation and asked them to share pictures and stories of how fishing has helped to get up, out and active regardless of age, ability, experience or background. Here’s Michelle and Isabelle’s story…
The pictures are of my daughter Isabelle. She won her first Junior Carp Fishing Competition at 9, weighing in almost 50lb (22.6 kg). Quite a feat for a 9-year-old!
Isabelle is now nearly 12 and because she’s interested in competitive fishing we went to the Fish O Mania final this summer.
She had a go at the free fishing coaching and was noticed by Danny Williams from the Angling Trust. He told her she had good angling skills, could read what was going on under the water well which helped her catch fish and was very impressed. She was well pleased!
Isabelle has recently started secondary school and is enjoying all things academic. She’s a keen reader, future YouTuber (…like they all are these days!), because she’s already 5-7 has been picked for the school netball team but despite all these other activities still makes time for days out fishing with Dad!
Best wishes – Michelle and Isabelle
