Environment Agency release 2016/17 Fisheries Annual Report

The Environment Agency has released the annual fisheries report detailing how fishing licence income was distributed by the agency and its partners to protect and enhance angling and fisheries. The report details aspects of fisheries including money used to restock England’s rivers, enforcement and participation.

The report can be found here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/environment-agency-annual-fisheries-report

In 2016 the Environment Agency funded the Angling Trust to work in partnership with Get Hooked on Fishing and the Angling Trades Association to increase angling participation through three clearly defined interventions –“Get Fishing”, “Family Fishing” and National Fishing Month resulting in 898 events or taster sessions delivered across England.

The majority of these were listed on Get Fishing Near You, the “Get Fishing” campaign’s event listing resource and blog. These interventions resulted in 35,000 people trying fishing for the first time or bringing a family member or friend fishing.

When you find out that children have been bitten by the angling bug it makes it all worthwhile. Mum Claire took time to let us know that “My boys were very fortunate to attend the family fishing session at Taunton. They now have the ‘bug’ and I would very much like to continue with a little more tuition. Please point me in the right direction.
