Young Anglers Getting Young People Fishing
Angling Trust Partnership Development Manager James Roche has been working with the Young Anglers project in Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire this year to introduce and retain more young people in fishing.
Young Anglers, a project aimed at getting more people fishing, have been enjoying a very busy 2017. James has been working with Licenced Angling Coach Ian Wilks, who has headed up the project for a number of years, and both are proud to say that this year has, without a doubt, been the busiest for the project. With a range of introductory fishing sessions, junior competitions and school holiday fishing camps running throughout the year, over 200 young people have been brought into the world of angling thanks to the Young Anglers project.
The sessions and matches have had some fantastic feedback, with parents really supporting the excellent work being undertaken by Ian to introduce more people to angling. One parent told us: “Thank you so much for today Ian. Tom is still buzzing and still has a massive smile. See you again at the next event”.
Further feedback included: “I just wanted to thank you for a fabulous day last Thursday. We were made to feel so welcome and Ian was a fantastic coach & role model to the children.”
It has been brilliant to see so many young people enjoying the opportunity to try fishing, with Ian creating a fantastic environment for anglers of all abilities to flourish and learn. It is the perfect place for any young person to get into fishing and develop their angling skills.
The Young Anglers project run regular events across the whole of the year. The next session is due to take place on Saturday 9th December with a special Christmas Cracker Fishing Camp on 28th December. More information on all the up and coming events can be found at www.juniorfishing.co.uk.
