River Action Pledges Support for Anglers Against Pollution
The Angling Trust are delighted to receive the support of River Action, the newly formed campaigning body focused on addressing river pollution in the UK, for Anglers Against Pollution.
“Avoidable pollution from careless agricultural practices or sewage discharges is damaging every river in the UK. Anglers are often the first to witness its devastating effects. Through the Anglers Against Pollution campaign. The Angling Trust has launched a brilliant initiative to hold government to account on this critical issue. We look forward to working closely with them in this war to save our rivers” said Charles Watson, River Action’s Chairman.
As anglers we know our rivers are in crisis. Only 16% of UK rivers achieved good ecological status in 2020 and in the same year no river was given good chemical status. With sewage outflows, agricultural pollution and industrial waste being the main culprits for the poor state of our rivers, the Angling Trust are campaigning for the Government to uphold laws already in place to protect our waterways and provide sufficient resources for the required monitoring, management and enforcement. A fight we have been leading the charge on since 1948.
“It’s brilliant to receive the support of River Action for our Anglers Against Pollution campaign, recognising the vital role anglers play in the fight for cleaner waterways and that we are at the heart of the solution for a greener future for our rivers. We look forward to working with River Action to ensure polluters are held to account for their actions and anglers voices are heard.” said Stuart Singleton-White, Head of Campaigns at the Angling Trust.
