Clubs, coaches and fisheries – how to get free promotion and a fishing licence waiver for your events this Summer of Fishing 2025

Our annual Summer of Fishing promotion through July, August and September raises awareness of the hundreds of angling events and opportunities that are available nationwide for newcomers to try fishing. We want this to help clubs, fisheries and coaches meet newcomer anglers too, so that the future of our wonderful sport is strengthened by more people going fishing, more often.

If you want us to include your events in the Summer of Fishing campaign, simply contact your Regional Angling Development Officer and they will get back to you to explain the straightforward safeguarding and quality checklist to include your events. Over 500 events are already benefiting from the nationwide promotion, are your club’s events part of this?

Events during Summer of Fishing benefit from our social media paid advertising, promotion in news and emails targeted to newcomers, and for freshwater events, a fishing licence waiver generously donated by the Environment Agency to encourage newcomers – so that participants do not need to buy a one-day licence to take part during the fishing session. We can also help with funding for events, at times when it is available, via the Get Fishing Fund which Angling Trust administers on behalf of the Environment Agency, and by helping your coaches and volunteers run Get Fishing Awards, a progressive development programme that helps a complete newcomer get the skills, confidence and knowledge to get into fishing for life!

Get in touch with your Regional Angling Development Officer using the contact details on our website.

The Get Fishing campaign is funded by

The Angling Trust’s Get Fishing campaign to get more people fishing more often is funded by the Environment Agency from fishing licence income as part of the National Angling Strategic Services contract with the Angling Trust, and Sport England. Children under 13 do not need a licence, and licences for children aged between 13 and 16 are free but you still need to register and receive a licence before you go fishing. You can get a licence for the full year, for 8 days (ideal for holidays!) or just a day’s fishing.

NOTE: Although young children who are under 13 year old do not need a licence to fish, the person supervising them needs to have the proper fishing licence before they take hold of the fishing rod or help the child fish with it.
