Whether you’re fishing for the first time, heading out for a day out with the family, or getting back into angling, fishing is a great way to get out there doing something different, and will show kids new outdoor skills.

Get Hooked on Fishing is a national charity established in 2000. We are proud to work in partnership with the Angling Trust and Environment Agency to deliver a range of fishing activities and events tailored to suit all ages.

Call or email us and discuss what you want to do – we can customise your fishing experience so that it fits perfectly with your ability, or favourite kind of fishing. Maybe you want to try a different skill or just catch a bigger fish – we will do our very best to make it happen. Everything you need to catch your first fish or learn more about fishing will be provided and our friendly volunteers will make you welcome. Simply get in touch using the contact details below and we will make sure you or your family or organisation have exactly what you want! We can also provide this service at selected fisheries all over England.

Venue: River Dee, Crewe, CH3 6PA (Note: Get Hooked on Fishing can also provide this service at selected fisheries all across the country).

Type of Fishing: Game

Perfect for: Families and kids of all ages and experience levels. People under the age of 18, or vulnerable people under 21 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

What happens on the day: We’ll talk to you before you come or arrange by email the kind of fishing that you’d like to try. All of our angling activities are designed to encourage adults, children and young people to discover what angling is all about and take the next-steps in angling. Perhaps you have tried basic whip-fishing at a public have-a-go event but you’d like to now find out how to use different kinds of fishing rods, reels, line and tackle. Maybe you want to get into fly fishing or carp fishing and learn a specific fishing skill. Get Hooked on Fishing Coaches, Volunteers or Peer Mentors will be on hand to help give fishing tips and provide you with more info about your local club or fishery so you know how to go fishing again next time.

Tackle: Chat to us in advance about what if anything you will need to bring – we can usually provide absolutely everything you’ll need. You might want to bring your own fishing gear if it’s a specific kind of fishing or a piece of tackle you are interested in getting to know more about.

Do I need to bring anything with me…? Outdoor events are weather dependent so please bring something to keep you dry and/or sunblock and a drink. For events including “game angling” we recommend that you wear a hat and glasses/sunglasses to protect your head and eyes while casting.

Disability information: Volunteers and coaches at Get Fishing events are provided with essential best practice guidance on working with and planning events for disabled and mobility impaired people. Please check with the venue contact about the facilities available.

Covid-19 Guidelines: If you have Covid-19 symptoms, we can rearrange the fishing trip but you must let us know with 24hrs notice – thanks. Appropriate distancing measures will be in place and any equipment requiring cleaning will be cleaned in between sessions. Please see latest Government guidelines here.

The Angling Trust’s ‘Get Fishing’ campaign is proudly supported by
Shakespeare, Exclusive Tackle Partner and Angling Direct, Exclusive Retail Partner
as we all work towards getting more people fishing, more often.

The Get Fishing campaign and partnership work carried out with Get Hooked on Fishing and other delivery partners, coaches and volunteers gets more people fishing more often, and is funded by the Environment Agency from fishing licence income as part of the National Angling Strategic Services contract with the Angling Trust, and Sport England. Fishing licences for juniors under the age of 17 are free, but you still need to register and receive a licence in order to go fishing.

NOTE: Although young children who are under 13 year old do not need a licence to fish, the person supervising them needs the proper fishing licence to take hold of the rod or to help the child fish with it.
