Get Fishing Fund – Funded Project: Cancer and Pisces Trust angling therapy helps people with cancer reconnect with nature and each other
The Cancer and Pisces Trust is a cancer charity that aims to enhance the lives of those experiencing cancer, using the therapeutic benefits of angling, and helping them to connect with both the natural world and each other.
They received funds from the Get Fishing Fund fund provided by the Environment Agency and administered by the Angling Trust. The funds have contributed to the continued success of the amazing work that helps people being treated for cancer, and their families, get outdoors, learn new skills and get into fishing.
Elizabeth Heath from the Cancer and Pisces Trust stated:
“Both centres received funding via the Get Fishing Fund to buy equipment this year, including new rods and reels for participants to use during sessions. This will give everyone a chance to try out different gear and find what works best for them before buying their own. We will always have enough equipment to cover 10 fishers at a time so, we are extremely well equipped now thanks to this hugely generous funding that we have received.”
The fantastic work at The Cancer and Pisces Trust – a club open only to those with cancer, along with their carers – provides a space where those who have been recently diagnosed are able to seek support by talking with other people with cancer who can vividly recall how they felt when first being informed about their condition. This project is one of over 200 projects nationally that have benefitted from an investment from the Get Fishing Fund.
The Get Fishing Fund has invested nearly £200,000 of fishing licence money to help get more people into fishing over the past year.

What is the Get Fishing Fund?
The Get Fishing Fund has invested nearly £200,000 of fishing licence money to help get more people into fishing over the past year. The fund is provided by the Environment Agency and administered by the Angling Trust. The Environment Agency supports angling-based projects with grants of up to £2,500 to help purchase equipment, fishing tackle, resources and run fishing activities that give people the opportunity to get into fishing for the first time.
About Get Fishing
Get Fishing is the Angling Trust‘s campaign to grow participation in angling and get more people fishing more often. Annually, the Get Fishing campaign introduces over 30,000 people to angling at hundreds of fun, safe and friendly events funded by the Environment Agency from fishing licence income as part of the National Angling Strategic Services contract with the Angling Trust, and Sport England. Children under 13 do not need a fishing licence, and fishing licences for children aged between 13 and 16 are free but you still need to register and receive a licence in order to go fishing. You can get a fishing licence for the full year, for 8 days (ideal for holidays!) or just a day’s fishing.
