Get Fishing Fund – Funded Project: Your project could benefit from the incredibly popular Get Fishing Fund like Asfordby and Melton Society of Anglers
Asfordby and Melton Society of Anglers have had a fantastic start to 2025! Supported by a grant from the Get Fishing Fund, the club’s programme of coaching sessions have been incredibly popular!
Based at Lakeview Fishery near Holwell Village, the club caters for match and pleasure anglers in a tranquil setting. All the information on the club’s up and coming programme of free events can be found on the East Midlands Get Fishing Events page.
The Environment Agency has invested over £600k of fishing licence income in just five years to 400+ Get Fishing Fund Projects via awards up to £2.5k each administered by the Angling Trust to resource newcomer activities for thousands of beginner anglers.
Our Get Fishing Fund will soon be opening again for projects for this year so keep looking at our web page – Get Fishing Fund
Get Fishing events are being added all the time on our website and at the moment, during our popular Spring into Fishing programme, it’s every day, so please check our Get Fishing events diary for new events near to you.
The events are run in partnership with dedicated and approved Event Delivery Partners, they are all fun, safe and friendly, and are part-funded by the Environment Agency who also provide a FREE rod fishing licence for the event, that covers everybody while they are fishing. Amazing!
After the event ends we aim for newcomer angling participants to be able to progress or complete their newcomer angler journey, and ready to take the first-steps on their own.
This means that you’ll feel confident to go fishing or ready to come back for another session where you can fish on your own with some basic knowledge of how to catch and release coarse fish including carp, perch and roach, or catch game fish including trout at places that are geared up for that type of fishing with flies or trout lures – all with the correct rod fishing licence!
Sign up for FREE Get Fishing email newsletters in a few seconds – to get news about events near to you and become a member of our virtual Get Fishing Club with entry into free prize draws, offers and discounts on brilliant beginner fishing tackle from our partners Angling Direct and Shakespeare Fishing Tackle.
The Get Fishing campaign is funded by
The Angling Trust’s Get Fishing campaign to get more people fishing more often is funded by the Environment Agency from fishing licence income as part of the National Angling Strategic Services contract with the Angling Trust, and Sport England. Children under 13 do not need a licence, and licences for children aged between 13 and 16 are free but you still need to register and receive a licence before you go fishing. You can get a licence for the full year, for 8 days (ideal for holidays!) or just a day’s fishing.
NOTE: Although young children who are under 13 year old do not need a licence to fish, the person supervising them needs to have the proper fishing licence before they take hold of the fishing rod or help the child fish with it.
Get Fishing is Proudly Supported by
