Get Fishing Event Support Volunteer
Please note that this course doesn’t constitute a coaching qualification or offer the opportunity to take up Licensed Coach membership of Angling Trust. However it can be an entry point for anyone new to the world of coaching. Whether you are young or old, if you have limited knowledge of coaching or want to provide more support to your club or fishery, then this is the course for you. You must however hold a basic level of angling knowledge and skill in your preferred angling discipline: these courses are not designed to teach you how to fish.
The Event Support Volunteer Award course is intended to support those aged 16 or over who wish to offer voluntary help at Get Fishing Award events or with an angling project, and it also provides an introduction to step into coaching. When booking you will be asked to supply the name of the club or project with which you expect to be assisting. An appropriate Enhanced DBS check is included with this course (Child workforce, voluntary role only and not suitable for paid employment), and in the event that you wish to progress to a Level 2 Angling Event Lead Coach course the £50 fee will be discounted from the Level 2 course fee.
Duration of the course will be three hours. It will be delivered in a tutor-led online classroom format and will cover the following:
- Roles and Responsibilities
- Understanding risk assessments and managing health and safety
- Working as part of a team
- Understanding the Get Fishing campaign and similar projects, and supporting interventions
- Practical coaching skills including: activating, delivering and reviewing sessions; how to instruct and explain; how to demonstrate; how to give praise; how to use open questions to support learning; how to keep young people safe; identifying types of abuse and how to report concerns
After a place on a course has been confirmed, Angling Trust will be in touch with you about starting the appropriate category of Enhanced DBS check. (DBS checking isn’t required in order to undertake or achieve the award, but will be needed for you to operate as a volunteer after completing the training.)
Please note also that the DBS which you undertake in connection with an Event Support Volunteer course must NOT be used for paid employment.
