Overview for coaching course candidates

We’ll help you with the process of becoming a licensed coach when we know which event you’ve selected and have confirmed your booking.

Following the introduction of new requirements, all coaches will be asked to undertake an Identity check a once a place on their selected event has been confirmed.  This is a requirement for undertaking such training, and is usually linked to an appropriate Enhanced DBS check.  (Suitable DBS clearance is mandatory for coach licensing, but it’s possible to take the qualification without it, as long as the required identity check has been done.)

If you’re taking a Level 2 Angling Event Lead Coach qualification through Angling Trust’s Coaching Centre but you don’t hold a Level 1 coach licence, when your place on a specific event is confirmed we’ll contact you and ask you to do the following:

► Undertake the required Identity check (also known as an Imposter check);

► Undertake an appropriate Enhanced DBS check, which normally Angling Trust will process for you, and provide the relevant identity documentation;

► Provide a suitable photograph of yourself for creating an ID card .when we can issue a licence after certification and DBS clearance.

If you’re taking a Level 2 qualification through Angling Trust’s Coaching Centre and you already hold a Level 1 coach licence, after you’ve qualified we’ll ask you to do the following:

► Confirm that you wish to convert your Level 1 licence to Level 2.

In most cases the DBS check relating to your Level 1 licence should be suitable for converting that licence to Level 2, but it may be necessary to update it (for example if it is nearing its 3-year review date).  We’ll also use the same photo of you, unless you prefer to supply a different one.

Important: if you already hold any category of DBS certificate, please DON’T send the document or any kind of copy of it to Angling Trust.  We would first need to find out whether AT would be entitled to ask for sight of the document, and if so we would advise how to arrange this.

► Not all Enhanced Disclosure certificates will be appropriate

► Not all employers/governing bodies may be entitled to view your Disclosure certificate, even with your permission.

► Angling Trust’s tutors and administrators are not authorised to view or assess DBS certificates.
