Julia’s House Children’s Hospice goes fishing
Our Partnership Development Manager Dean Asplin’s latest blog tells us about a recent angling trip with Julia’s House Children’s Hospice in Somerset…
Over the past couple of years the Angling Trust has supported Wimborne and District Angling Club to put in place structures and safeguarding that enable this very active club to run regular public angling participation lessons. The aim being to encourage a boost in angling participation and membership.
This important work to get more people fishing is funded by the Environment Agency and has been going from strength to strength with a real increase in the club’s junior and adult members.
The club wanted to use angling to offer an outdoor experience to junior residents at Julia’s House Children’s Hospice that are suffering from very poor health.
It was hoped that a days fishing might offer a bit of fun, laughter and relaxation in the peaceful and beautiful countryside around the club’s waters.
I heard from Sean Harris, the Club Welfare Officer who told me “After months of planning we were able to take six young people from Julia’s House fishing at Todber Manor Fishery. The joy and achievements that everyone experienced is something that will stay with them in the years to come. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this event possible, to Todber Manor for the kind use of their facilities, and thank you to Julia’s House for allowing us to share our passion for angling with you.”
While this was a special event set up for the hospice, there are lots more events for children, families and newcomers of all ages on the Get Fishing Near You page.
