Number of Junior Fishing Licences on the Rise
The number of young people fishing has increased significantly since the introduction of free junior licences last year. 79,000 junior licences – freely available on GOV.UK – were issued over the year, marking a 53% increase.
Kevin Austin, Head of Fisheries at the Environment Agency, said “Today’s children are the anglers of tomorrow and it’s important we attract them to the sport early. We’re really pleased to see that a growing number of young people are taking up the offer of a free junior licence.”
The age bracket for free junior licences has changed from 12-16 to 13-16. Those under 13 do not need a licence to fish.
You can buy a 1-day, 8-day or 12-month licence online, with licences for 13-16 year olds being free. Get your fishing licence today.
