Angling Trust Junior National Championships 2020 Report
Saturday 10th October 2020, Packington Somers, Meriden, 54 fished. 9 teams of 6 of young anglers between the ages of 10 and 15 fished against each other in a contest to be crowned Angling Trust Junior Champions 2020.
This match was postponed from June at the height of the Covid pandemic and had to run be in line with tight Covid restrictions which meant an on line draw the night before, anglers going straight to their pegs upon arrival at the fishery and no presentations or results ceremony. Heavy rain in the lead up to the match and a big drop in temperature overnight meant this was a struggle for most of the youngsters with most fish being caught in the last hour of the match. Conditions on the day didn’t help either with a cold wind and showers making tackle presentation very difficult.
Worksop & Districts Matthew Mollart was crowned Individual Junior Champion 2020 after taking the best weight of the day of 20.525Kg from peg 9 on the point of Siblings B where he caught carp and F1’s. Bailey Barton (Leigh Ospreys) drew peg 25 on Molands and weighed 17.375Kg for the runner up spot and 3rd place went to Will Marchant (Blakes Baits A4) with 14.350 Kg from peg 13 on Siblings B. After a recount Blakes Baits A4 took the coveted title with 43 pts with Leigh Ospreys Juniors and Evesham Sensas Youth close behind, each with 39pts, with Leigh Ospreys edging out Evesham on weight.
The Angling Trust would like to thank John Burchell and his team at Packington Somers for their help in organizing a well organised day.
